What should I expect of my cleaners...?
Wednesday 6 November, 2024
In 2008, when we took our cleaning company from domestic cleaning to a commercial cleaning level, we discovered, by accident, that many cleaning company's DON'T clean the desk areas... AT ALL. No computer screens, no telephones, and no keyboards... Much of the time, they didn't clean the desk either. Why?
We also saw that many cleaning company's ask their cleaners not to clean anything above eye-level. Nothing at all. Cobwebs? No. Partition glass. Nope - leave that too. Washing up? No way! This was in 2008, but it's exactly the same way now too...
These things are EXTRA! or not offered at all. They'd vacuum maybe. Mop perhaps, and empty some bins. Is that really enough for you...?
There will always be desks that can't be cleaned. They're full, or there's a preference by the person sitting there that it's best to leave it alone. there will be some sensitive computing, or server rooms that are asked to be left be. There are some extra things that should be extra, like external window cleaning, carpet cleaning extraction, deep cleaning... Sanitary and washroom services... But the desk...? The telephone...? A spiders house...?
Covid-19 taught us the importance of proper hygiene and sanitation. People were far more wary of cleanliness than they ever were before. Who used this phone before me? When was the last time it was hygienically cleaned? I am, after all, putting this thing to my face!
We NEVER allowed ourselves to follow suit with this. It was a 'norm' in the cleaning industry that desks and computers were extra. Most of them did this (or didn't!), but we just couldn't... We won't. EVER!
ALL cleaning services we provide INCLUDE the desks, the computer screen on the desk, the keyboard, phone, wiping to stationary storage, removing any glasses or mugs, and even the desk chair. Why would you not? These get dirty like anything else. Offices and commercial premises have cobwebs like anywhere else, and they're usually up high. Why would you not? A few mugs to wash-up, why would you not?
So to answer the article question, here's what you SHOULD expect... Surface areas should be wiped, THROUGHOUT. Desks sanitised, cups removed... Telephones wiped with anti-bacterial & virucidal chemicals, keyboards cleaned, screen dusted and polished... The kitchen should be thoroughly cleaned, dishwasher loaded (and unloaded if time allows), the toilet areas thoroughly cleaned, soap topped-up, toilet paper replenished, sanitary checked and disposed (if requested), floors cleaned with correctly coloured (and clean) mops, thorough vacuum of carpeted areas, cobwebs addressed, rubbish removed and disposed and recycling rules followed at all times.
You should also expect proper communication. Was there a problem that needs reporting? Was all OK with the keys, alarms, were lights on where they shouldn't be, any leaks or things of concern? You should EXPECT to be told...
You should also expect our teams to be fully supported and supervised. NOT just left on their own. Not only to check to ensure that the highest possible cleaning standards are being met, but that cleaning teams feel looked after, motivated, part of a proper cleaning company team. Many cleaning company's just plop someone in your premises, leave them there and then hope for the best. Sometimes this works. But most of the time it just doesn't. There has to be a new way to get a cleaning service that's effective, reliable, efficient and without it costing the Earth. or do you just carry on with the cleaning people plodding along as they have for years.
There is a new way. There is a better way. And that is what you should expect...
